Blue Tit

A familiar garden visitor throughout the year, the Blue Tit has plumage of yellow, green and blue and a white head topped with a blue cap and a black "mask".

Distributed throughout the UK, they will stay close to where they were raised and visit gardens for food, often in winter when their natural food is not available. They will nest in the garden in a tree or your nest boxes, and have a large clutch of eggs.

In summer they will mainly feed on insects found in trees and crevices, but will also come to your feeders for sunflower seed, mixed seed, peanuts and suet snacks. In winter, they will rely on you to keep your feeders topped up. It is always fun to see the Blue Tit acrobatically taking seed from your feeders and taking it to a suitable perch for dismantling.
