A sparrow-sized bird, found in gardens, parks and open areas. The male Greenfinch is bright yellow-green in spring, while it's partner is grey-green. Both sexes have yellow wing patches, rumps and tail.

These birds are widespread and common throughout the UK, often occurring in flocks when seed can be found in abundance. In fact, they nest in colonies in dense trees and shrubs in nests made from fine roots and hair.

As with a lot of other bird species, Greenfinches will visit garden bird feeders in winter when food is scarce, taking sunflower seed and peanuts from tables and hanging feeders.
