House Martin

A common summer visitor to the UK, the Housemartin has a blue-black back and tail, white underparts, rump and throat. It can be distinguished from the Swallow by its lack of tail streamers.

On arriving in the UK, they set about feeding and building their nests under the eaves of houses. Nests are made from mud gathered from the waters edge and applied to the nest with saliva.

As they almost exclusively feed on insects caught on the wing, they do not visit garden feeders.
