Pheasant

This bird was introduced from Asia in 11th century to provide the aristocracy with game for hunting. The male is large with a long tail, has orange-brown plumage, a blue-green iridescent head and a bright red wattle. The female is mottled brown with a shorter tail.

Pheasants are mainly found in open countryside, where they will visit gardens. They are widespread and common throughout the UK.

They feed on a variety of seeds, fruit and insects and will eat such foods from the ground in the garden.
