A tiny chubby bird with a short tail, the Wren is instantly recognisable by its habit of cocking its tail up. It has brown plumage and a white streak above the eye.

Common throughout the UK, the Wren prefers to live an active life amongst the tight branches of shrubs and sings with a loud, warbling voice ending in a trill. They will use open fronted nest boxes as well as holes to build their small, feather-line nests.

Birds predominantly eat insects and spiders on its travels through the shrubbery, but may take seed from a bird table before darting back to safety.
